Never Have I Ever Questions for Teens: Clean Sleepover and School Prompts

200 clean prompts in ten themed packs, three no-drink scoring methods, a host script, and a printable quick-start list for your next teen game night.

A group of teens sitting in a circle holding up fingers with prompt cards and playful icons

With never have i ever questions for teens, the fourth round is where the game usually clicks or quietly dies. The prompts below stay clean, and the packs make it easy to change direction when a group runs out of steam.

I started keeping a running list after chaperoning my younger cousin's fourteenth birthday. The store-bought card game lasted exactly four rounds before someone read a prompt that made three kids stare at the floor. The list I threw together at the kitchen counter got them laughing for an hour. It kept growing. For another clean teen-friendly reference, compare the tone with Greenlight's teen question guide.

Featured tool

Never Have I Ever Generator

Pick Teens mode and tap Start Game. The generator avoids back-to-back repeats and keeps the pace moving so you never have to scroll through a list mid-round.

Play teens mode

How to play Never Have I Ever (PG teen rules)

  1. Everyone sits in a circle and holds up ten fingers (or grabs ten tokens).
  2. One person reads a "Never have I ever..." statement.
  3. If you have done it, put a finger down (or lose a token).
  4. Stories are optional. No follow-up interrogation.
  5. Everyone gets one free pass per game — use it on any prompt, no questions asked.
  6. The reader role moves clockwise. The last person with fingers up wins.

That explanation is enough. Start playing quickly.

The host script (say this once before round one)

"We're keeping this PG. You can pass any time. If a prompt feels too personal, we skip it — no questions, no teasing."

Say it out loud. When someone uses the pass for the first time, nod and move on immediately. That small moment sets the tone for the whole game.

The three nope rules

Agree on these before the first prompt, especially with new friend groups:

  • No personal-info prompts. Addresses, exact grades, family finances, and medical stuff are off-limits.
  • No humiliation prompts. Nothing that targets a specific person in the room.
  • No "prove it" demands. No pressure to show photos, screenshots, DMs, or receipts.

If someone invents a prompt on the fly that breaks a nope rule, the reader skips it and picks the next one. No debate needed.

Three no-drink scoring methods

MethodWhat you needHow it works
FingersYour handsStart with 10 up, lower one per "I have." First to lose all 10 is out (or just keeps watching).
TokensCandy, coins, or chips (10 each)Toss one into the center pot each round. Lowest pile at the end wins. Winner keeps the pot if it's candy.
PointsPaper and pen, or a phoneAdd 1 point each time you've done it. Highest score at the end means you've "lived the most." Lowest score means you win.

The token method works best at sleepovers because there's a tangible, edible reward. At school events, fingers are fastest since you don't need any supplies.

Hosting tips that prevent drama

Running Never Have I Ever for a group of teens is half game-master, half referee. Here's what I learned the hard way:

  • Read the three nope rules out loud before the first prompt. Every time. Even if the group groans.
  • Use the pass rule early. If someone hesitates on round two, say "pass is totally fine" before anyone else speaks. That one moment sets the tone.
  • Keep a 5-second pace. Read the prompt, count the fingers, move on. If a story starts, let it happen naturally, but don't force "tell us more."
  • Start with Laugh-first. Always. Even if the group says they want the "embarrassing" pack first. Warming up matters.
  • End while it's fun. If the energy dips after two packs, switch to Truth or Dare or Would You Rather. Nobody remembers the game that overstayed.
  • No filming rule. Say it once: "Nobody records anyone's reactions." That one rule prevents 90% of post-game drama.
  • Have a backup game ready. If the group isn't clicking with NHIE, pivot to Truth or Dare for Teens or fun truth or dare ideas for kids for younger groups.

Printable quick-start list

Print this section or screenshot it for game night. Ten universal prompts that work with any group:

  1. Never have I ever laughed so hard I snorted.
  2. ...sent a text to the wrong person.
  3. ...eaten cereal for dinner.
  4. ...forgotten an assignment until the night before.
  5. ...tripped on nothing in front of people.
  6. ...changed my profile picture three times in one day.
  7. ...hidden in my room to avoid a chore.
  8. ...been caught singing when I thought I was alone.
  9. ...burned something I was trying to cook.
  10. ...said "we should hang out more" and then never followed up.

Write the pass rule at the top. Leave blank space at the bottom for prompts the group invents during the game — the best ones always come from the players themselves.

Making your own prompts

The best teen NHIE prompts follow a simple formula: a universal experience + a tiny amount of embarrassment that the player chose to share.

Good prompt ingredients:

  • Something almost everyone has done but wouldn't admit
  • A funny accident, not a personal failure
  • A relatable school, family, or tech moment
  • Something that invites a laugh, not judgment

Avoid: anything targeting one person, anything about appearance or bodies, anything requiring proof, and anything a reasonable adult would pause at.

Test a new prompt by imagining the quietest kid in the room putting a finger down. Would they feel fine about it? If not, rewrite it.
